Homeward is a small press. We publish books that defy the constraints of genre, because we believe that weird, brave, complex stories deserve a home.

Our books are not the books you’ll find anywhere else, but they’ll carry you far from yourself and delve deep into your heart.

We’re five friends from around the world who bonded over the books we love.

M. Huw Evans
Huw has edited books for Hydra House, the University of Washington, and a variety of academic publishing houses. He’s a Clarion West alum and board member.
Huw is a former pathologist who adopts a new knife from every city he visits. He’s a serial giver of books, an eager if slow reader, and a cook who makes pasta from scratch.
Lara Elena Donnelly
Lara’s novels have been nominated for the Nebula, the Locus, and the Lambda Awards. She administers the annual Alpha Workshop for Young Writers.
Lara is a gardener and textile nerd. Chic in both men’s and women’s suits, she knows all the gossip about historical figures you’ve never heard of.
Rachel Sobel
Rachel teaches creative writing and computer science at Hugo House and the University of Washington. She holds an MFA in fiction from Hunter College in New York.
Rachel can identify an osprey by the shape of its head. Every six months she rearranges her bookshelves according to an esoteric—but exquisitely logical—system.
Rebekah White
Rebekah is a science journalist and magazine editor. She is a Columbia Journalism School graduate, a Fulbright scholar, and writes for publications around the world.
Rebekah is never in the time zone we expect to find her in. She hoards languages; she likes Swedish words for animals and the fact that te reo Māori connects her to home.
Emma Kaniuk
Emma is a creative director and designer who works on global projects spanning the fields of publishing, art, biotech, finance, short films and social change.
Emma documents gardens planted on road verges around the world. If she had lived in Paris in the 1930s, she would have hosted an epic salon every Saturday night.
